Jeffrey A. Beal, Ph.D., is the Codirector of the Center for Early Education Research & Evaluation (CEERE) at HighScope Educational Research Foundation. Dr. Beal leads the development, refinement, and validation of child and program assessments. He led the development and validation of COR for Kindergarten and assisted in the revision and validation of Classroom Coach, a tool designed to measure the global quality of preschool classrooms. Currently, he is leading the development of the Ready School Assessment, a tool designed to measure how ready elementary schools are to address the needs of all students. Prior to joining HighScope, Dr. Beal was the Kindergarten Entry Assessment Consultant for the Michigan Department of Education. Prior to working for MDE, Dr. Beal held several positions in the Michigan K-12 education system. He was the Assistant Director of Educational Services at St. Clair County RESA where he provided consultant services in English Language Arts K-5 and created a K-12 writing workshop curriculum called WriteWell. He was principal and special education director of Algonac Elementary School, a community school that provided educational opportunities and health services from birth to fifth grade and districtwide special education services. He also held a variety of teaching positions including Title 1 K-5, Reading Recovery, special education inclusion second grade, multi-grade 2-3, and multi-grade 3-5. Dr. Beal has presented nationally and internationally on topics ranging from reading and writing to easing preschool to kindergarten transitions. He frequently presents at national conferences about HighScope‘s child and classroom quality assessments. Dr. Beal completed his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership at Oakland University.
