Dr. Elizabeth Pungello Bruno is the President of the Brady Education Foundation. Prior to shifting her primary professional efforts to the Foundation, Dr. Bruno was a Research Associate Professor in the Developmental Psychology Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) and a Scientist at the Frank Porter Graham (FPG) Child Development Center, where her main research focus was on early care and education environments and school readiness skills of at-promise children, funded by grants from private foundations (Buffett Early Childhood Fund) and government agencies (e.g., National Institute of Child Health and Human Development). More specifically, her work included the investigation of the long-term outcomes of the Abecedarian Project (an early educational intervention program for children ages 0-5 designed to promote positive cognitive and academic outcomes); the exploration of the associations among ethnicity, income, parenting, childcare quality, and language development and school readiness; and the investigation of factors that influence why and how parents search for and select childcare. In addition, she led the initial phases of the FPG Infant-Toddler Initiative and served on the NonBiomedical Institutional Review Board at UNC-CH for over a decade. Dr. Bruno currently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Marriage and Family and the Early Childhood Research Quarterly, and has published several articles and book chapters on early education environments, family circumstances, and child outcomes. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the University of Rochester; as a member of the FPG Executive Leadership Board; on the Board of Directors of Brady Corporation based in Milwaukee, WI; as well as on a number of non-profit boards. Dr. Bruno received her bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Rochester, and her master’s in child clinical psychology and Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
