Who We Are
Alex Johnston is president and founder of Impact for Education, a philanthropic advising practice that engages forward-thinking funders to catalyze systemic change in public education. Previously, Alex co-founded and served for seven years as CEO of ConnCAN, an advocacy organization focused on closing Connecticut’s academic achievement gap. Alex is a board member of FaithActs for Education, a former member of the New Haven Board of Education, and a board member and former chair of the Policy Innovators in Education Network, the national association of state-level education reform advocacy organizations. In addition to the Trust for Learning, Alex serves on advisory boards for the Center for Reinventing Public Education and Education Resource Strategies. Alex got his start in education at the Common School in Amherst, Massachusetts. He is a graduate of Harvard College and received a D. Phil. in politics from Oxford University’s Lincoln College on a Rhodes Scholarship. In past lives, Alex has been the pastry chef at a gastropub, director of operations at a housing authority, and a licensed home-improvement contractor.
