Louis Hamlyn-Harris is Co-Senior Director of Early Childhood at Manny Cantor Center, an innovative Reggio-Emilia inspired Preschool that incorporates Head Start, tuition and city funding to ensure that all children and families have access to joyful learning environments that foster inquiry, exploration and reflection. In 2018, he launched universal pre-kindergarten (UPK) at Manny Cantor Center, an integrated, blended-funding program for 4 year olds serving families across the economic spectrum on the Lower East Side and beyond. 

Louis undertook his teacher training in Brisbane, Australia and has taught in Reggio Emilia-inspired settings in Australia, Vietnam and the U.S. In 2014 he moved to New York City to help open Explore and Discover (E&D), an infant toddler center and preschool in Kipps Bay, where he was a founding Head Teacher and Curriculum Coordinator. For his work at E&D, Louis was recognized as New Professional Leader of 2016 by the NYSAEYC. He is the co-founder of the Ideal Learning Head Start Network, a nation-wide group of inspired practitioners working to bring progressive education to public settings. Louis believes that children thrive in the context of rich, nurturing relationships and in environments that support children’s powerful drive to make sense of the world around them.
