Jennifer L. Schmidt serves as a Literacy Program Development Specialist for EL Education, where she creates tools and training to support teachers, coaches, building leaders, and district leaders implementing EL Education’s K-8 English Language Arts curriculum. As a member of the Ideal Learning Roundtable (ILR), Jennifer works with a team of experts to ensure all children have access to equitable and high-quality early childhood ideal learning programs. Jennifer is also passionate about cultivating and deepening the literacy development of every student through the use of inquiry-based, reflective learning experiences that help all students build their self-efficacy as critical readers, writers, and thinkers. She finds joy when students use their literacy skills to become critical agents for change in their schools and communities. Jennifer believes that there is greatness in every person and feels a deep responsibility to help others cultivate their inner genius. As a former teacher, Reading Specialist and Staff Developer, she has worked with students, teachers, community members, parents, and administrators on best practices in education, literacy instruction, and data-driven instructional practices from primary grades to high school. Jennifer earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from Morgan State University, a M.S.Ed in Reading, Writing, and Literacy with a focus on Language and Literacy in grades K-12 from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education, and a M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from Regent University. Currently she is pursuing a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Regent University. Jennifer enjoys taking nature-walks, reading, writing, and spending time with her three lovely young children.
