Trust for Learning is delighted to announce that Ellen Roche will join us as Executive Director on October 30th. Ellen shares our passion for bringing Ideal Learning to all children, and is excited to learn from and build on our team’s momentum and Stephanie Miller’s indelible legacy.
Ellen knows the power of Ideal Learning—and the imperative of equity in creating it for all children. Beginning in college, she taught with and managed Amnesty International’s Human Rights Education Service Corps in Washington, D.C. Public Schools. She then earned her M.Ed. from Harvard, where she studied civic and antiracist education and discovered a strand of progressive education that has become her passion—the early women of the Shady Hill School. Ellen’s classroom experience includes teaching at two D.C. charter schools, first at Cesar Chavez and then at Capital City, where she learned and grew with students through a mixed-age expeditionary learning model.
Ellen continued her strong commitment to inclusivity and racial equity as Director of Brand Strategy at Free Range and Lead Strategist at Provoc. In these roles, she partnered with dozens of foundations, businesses, and nonprofits, including with California Newsreel to develop digital experiences to complement The Raising of America, a documentary about early childhood care and education. She has led workshops and trainings around the country on storytelling and racial equity and recently supported the launch of a new, national movement called Racial Equity Here, through which more than 500 organizations across sectors have committed to clear, shared racial equity best practices.
We are thrilled to have Ellen join our team to deepen and expand the work of making ideal early learning real for all children. Please welcome her and get to know her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
